"The 400 Crusaders"

The Classmates of Bishop McDevitt's Class of 1967

"The 400 Crusaders"

YOUR NAME IS HERE!

AND YOU ARE REMEMBERED!

YOU ARE 1 OF 400 CRUSADERS!

AND YOU COUNT!

Yes, the classmates of Bishop McDevitt High School's Class of 1967 were 400 strong.  And 50 years later, they are still 400 strong with each and everyone remembered, a half century after their graduation from "The Twin Towers".

YOU ARE A CRUSADER!  YOU COUNT!  You are ONE of "The 400 Crusaders" of the Class of 1967.

With great respect, we fondly remember the 39 Crusaders who have passed from the ranks of the living to the ranks in eternity.  Though they are no longer seen and heard here on earth, we still see and hear them in our memories, in our Pridwen 1967 yearbook, and in the portraits shown when their passing was announced publicly.

As I look back over my life, it's 67 plus years, I wonder about many things.  Much of what I think about is PEOPLE.

At this time, as we plan for our 50th year Bishop McDevitt High School Class of '67 Reunion to occur in September 2017, I am much thinking about OUR CRUSADER CLASSMATES - how I knew them then, and how I know them now . . . . . and how I did not know them then and do not know them now.

This 50th year reunion of the 1967 Crusaders is an opportunity to get to know classmates like we never have before. That's my vision for this reunion - GET TO KNOW OUR CRUSADER CLASSMATES LIKE WE NEVER HAVE BEFORE.

In high school, I was a shy guy who had little skill with speaking to the ladies and to many of the guys. Though, as with everyone, there was a core of friends and acquaintances I ran with and we gravitated to one another. Social frameworks were established.

In walking back into the "high school zone", we are probably still within many of the frameworks of relationships as they were then, 50 years ago.  Now, we are, or should be, but might not be, different people, different than we were then in the 1960s. In some ways, that's good. In other ways, that's not good. For me, the shy kid of 50 years ago needs to be gone, if he is not. In many ways, he is gone. In some ways, he is not gone and he lingers around. Could it be that for some of us, we need to break the molds that were created 50 years ago and that still persist today and that keep us from being who we are meant to be? I think so.

Today, a half century after attending high school, I am thinking about OUR CLASSMATES. Who are they today? What are they really like today? I think about those who have passed, and I remember our interactions then, and my heart is touched by their passing. Of our 400 classmates, 39 are no longer with us.

Thus, that brings me to a thought I had one morning. I am working to update the contact information for our 400 CLASSMATES. That fits my forte of collecting and analyzing data, and then sifting through that data to determine some hidden, not so obvious meaning. So, I thought, "What are the FIRST NAMES of all OUR CLASSMATES?"  Then I decided to write this post and list every first name . . . . . just for the heck of it to see what happens. All the FIRST NAMES are here, the living (to get to know more) and the passed (to be remembered more).

HERE THEY ARE - THE FIRST NAMES OF THE BISHOP McDEVITT HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF '67.  WHY? Because you should know that YOUR CLASSMATES ARE THINKING ABOUT YOU and CARING ABOUT YOU and WANT TO KNOW YOU LIKE THEY'VE NEVER KNOWN YOU BEFORE.
